You can prevent a yeast infection from occurring in the first place with just a few good health practices. This is because the body needs yeast, but at times it can get out of control. The steps involve; proper diet, good skin care, using antibiotics only when necessary and keeping health conditions under control.

A good diet for yeast infection sufferers is to avoid carbohydrates and sugar as much as possible. Eating plenty of live cultures in yogurt, kefir and acidophilus is a good start. Then make sure to include plenty of fresh vegetables, lean protein foods and a few servings of fresh fruits. Carbohydrates should be in the form of whole grains; making sure to avoid white processed flour.

It is helpful to control yeast infection by only wearing cotton clothing. This helps to absorb the skins natural moisture. Also, only use plain white toilet paper with no print or dyes. Make sure the folds of skin are dried completely. Avoid use of powders, creams or deodorants in the genital areas.
